Trident United Way was recently recognized as Nonprofit of the Year by the Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce.

David Hampton II, JD accepted the award at The Honors on behalf of the organization.

This recognition reflects the everyday work happening across our region to support ALICE (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed) families!

Trident United Way

Melanie is currently serving as the Board Chair for Trident United Way whose bold goal is to uplift 15,000 families out of poverty by 2035. Blue Tide actively supports Trident United Way and is proud to join forces with others to drive collective impact!

David was a Founding Member of East Cooper Faith Network and the I-Beam Mentoring program where he served on the board for over 9 years.   The program supports reading and mentoring across 7 schools with hundreds of volunteers across East Cooper. They also partner with Operation Home and Habitat for Humanity to help with small home repairs providing for safety, health and accessibility.  


David also served as a member of Rotary for over 15 years, serving as President for 1 year and a board member for 6 years. He was also a founder of the ‘Rotary Wheels’ fundraiser and an active Rotary Reader.

Charleston Southern University & Clemson University

Rick is an active Board Member at Charleston Southern University where he supports the mission to promote academic excellence in a Christian environment, integrating faith in learning, leading, and serving.

Melanie is the current Board Chair for the Wilbur O. and Ann Powers School of Business Management Advisory Board. She is passionate about mentoring students and building the next gen workforce.

Other Ways we Give Back & Connect with Our Community

  • Melanie and Rick are both active at LifePark church where Rick serves as an Elder.

  • After 30+ years at Mt Pleasant Presbyterian where he served as Deacon and Elder, David is an active member of St. Andrews church where he volunteers his time.

  • Paula is an active member of Palmetto Presbyterian church and a leader at Hope House.

  • Melanie is a Volunteer Board Member on the Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce.
